Where can a teenager go to seek help in Anne Arundel County if he/she has a drug problem?

Alcoholism Counseling (8)
Programs that provide individual, group or family therapy for people who abuse alcohol and/or for their families to help them better understand the nature of the disease of alcoholism and to support their efforts to recover.

Comprehensive Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment (6)
Supervised, structured programs that offer a wide range of outpatient services for individuals who have problems related to substance abuse, who need access to treatment to maintain their individual recovery plans but do not require the intensity of a day treatment program or 24-Detoxification (6) Programs that provide assistance and support for individuals who are physically dependent on substances of any kind during the withdrawal period.

Drug Abuse Counseling (8)
Programs that provide individual, group or family therapy for individuals who abuse drugs and/or for their families to help them better understand the nature of their physical and/or psychological dependency or impairment and to support their efforts to recover.

Dual Diagnosis (4)
A condition in which individuals have a diagnosed mental illness which interferes with their functioning in a substantial way in combination with a chemical dependency problem which aggravates their ability to become stabilized or recover.

DUI Offender Programs (4)
Programs that provide mandated educational, treatment and/or other services for individuals who have been convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs including prescription drugs and ordered by the court to seek assistance as part of state efforts to enforce DUI laws. Some DUI offender programs also include families.

Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (3)
Community-based residential facilities that provide treatment services in the context of a 24-hour, supervised drug and alcohol-free environment for people who have problems related to substance abuse.

Substance Abuse Counseling (8)
Programs that provide individual, group or family therapy for individuals who abuse substances of any kind and/or for their families to help them better understand the nature of their physical and/or psychological dependency or impairment and to support their efforts to recover.

Substance Abuse Education/Prevention (5)
Programs that provide information about substance abuse and/or which offer any of a variety of services that focus on substance abuse prevention for people of all ages who are at risk.

Substance Abuse Intervention Programs (2)
Programs that work with the families and friends and others who are concerned with the alcohol or other drug addiction of someone they love with the objective of helping those individuals create a crisis in the life of the chemically dependent person as the first step in helping them to recognize their disease and accept treatment.

Substance Abuse Treatment Programs (16)
Community and hospital-based programs that provide a variety of inpatient, outpatient and residential treatment services for individuals who have problems related to substance abuse.

Teenage Drug Abusers (3)
Services for children and adolescents who have a drug dependency or abuse problem.

Transitional Residential Substance Abuse Services (1)
Programs that provide alcohol and other drug-free congregate living arrangements which facilitate the return to the community of individuals who are recovering from problems related to substance abuse, who may be leaving an inpatient or residential treatment program and who need ongoing support to sustain an abstinent lifestyle.

 

What are the signs of a person who uses drugs?

ALCOHOL

  • Slurred speech or difficulty expressing a thought intelligibly
  • Lack of coordination, poor balance
  • Can't walk a straight line
  • Can't focus on your eyes
  • Red eyes or flushed face
  • Morning headaches, nausea, weakness, or sweatiness
  • Odor of alcohol on breath or in sweat

 

CIGARETTES

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Constipation or diarrhea
  • Falling heart rate and blood pressure
  • Fatigue, drowsiness, and insomnia
  • Irritability
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Increased hunger and caloric intake
  • Increased pleasantness of the taste of sweets
  • Tobacco cravings

 

MARIJUANA

  • Bloodshot eyes
  • Smell in hair or on clothing (sweet, pungent odor)
  • Munchies or sudden appetite
  • Wetting lips or excessive thirst (known as "cotton mouth")
  • Avoiding eye contact when you challenge the teenager
  • Burned or sooty fingers (from "joints" or "roaches" burning down)

 

COCAINE

  • Restlessness
  • Excessively talkative, rapid speech
  • Pupils dilated (enlarged) in well-lit room
  • Runny nose or bloody nose (no cold or other illness associated)
