Current Trends – Countywide
Underage drinking is an important community concern. According to the 2002 Maryland Adolescent Survey (MAS), 50.3% of 12th graders attending Anne Arundel County Public Schools during the 2002-2003 school year reported consuming alcohol in the past 30 days. Of those 12th graders, 35.3% reported binge drinking (consuming 5 or more servings of alcohol on one occasion). Data from the 2006 Maryland Kids Count Data Report ranked Anne Arundel County as one of the worst for reported binge drinking based on the percentage of Maryland 10th graders who reported binge drinking within a 30 day period during the 2005-2006 school year.
