Brief History

Teens In Partnership (TIP), originally named the Anne Arundel County Youth Advisory Board, was established in October of 2007 during the Teen Summit Planning Forum. The purpose of the planning forum was to provide youth the opportunity to brainstorm ideas and design an agenda for the development of the 2008 Anne Arundel County Teen Summit. As a result of the forum, twenty-one youth committed themselves to serve as members of the Teen Summit Planning Committee/Youth Advisory Board. On January 10th of 2008, Teens In Partnership held its first official meeting. Today the board serves as its’ own committee under the auspice of the Anne Arundel County Local Management Board Substance Abuse and Delinquency Prevention Coalition. Their goal is to propose, develop, and implement strategies that focus on the reduction of underage drinking among county youth. They are also charged with developing a strategic plan that outlines their vision on how future funds should be spent to better address issues that young people face in Anne Arundel County with regards to underage drinking and substance use. The board currently has twelve (12) active board members representing various regions of the county that meet on a monthly basis.

Mission Statement

To coordinate a continuum of services that integrates evidence-based and environmental strategies as a means of reducing underage drinking and juvenile delinquency.

Goals

Goal One: Establish and strengthen collaboration among communities, private nonprofit agencies, and Federal, State, local and tribal governments to support the efforts of community coalitions to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth.

Goal Two: Reduce substance abuse among youth and, over time, among adults by addressing factors in the community that increase the risk of substance abuse and promoting the factors that minimize the risk of substance abuse.

Funding

Anne Arundel County Local Management Board Substance Abuse and Delinquency Prevention (SADP) Coalition receives funding through two funding streams. A grant from Maryland’s Governors Office for Children and a collaborative grant through the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA) by way of the Drug Free Communities Support Program Grant. Both grants support the efforts of Teens In Partnership.
